Mulund

On paper this is the last suburb of the Mumbai city on the Central Railway line. And till recently, that's how it's been treated. The Mumbaikars didn't pay too much attention to it, while the closest neighbors, the Thaneites were too busy developing their own city.

So the residents of Mulund took it upon themselves to develop their own suburb. And they have done it well, from the early days. Back in the 1920s, German town planners M/S Carter & Crown were appointed to design a well-planned grid shaped layout. The rectangular plan, called Mangalpuri town-planning scheme with its 44 feet wide roads has all along been responsible to the suburbs spacious uncluttered feel.

Over the last century, the residents of this suburb have done quite a bit to set their own milestones and create landmarks. On the education front, The Mulund college of Commerce is among the finest colleges in Central Mumbai.

On the shopping circuit, R Mall and Nirmal Lifestyles have put Mulund on the map of every serious shopper in the country. R Mall, with its seven-level car parking spread on the area of 1,50,000 sq. ft. is said to be the largest mall in the country. On the multiple floors, the shoppers are exposed to a truly international experience from the finest to the most expensive.

And when it comes to buying homes, there are several new constructions underway backed by prestigious builders. As the market is rapidly maturing, there are several options to choose from that are close to the railway station. This cuts down on travel time and costs, and give one the pleasure of living in one of the fastest growing suburbs of the city.

Transport: Central Railway station, roadways. The suburb is just minutes away from Thane and it takes about 50 minutes to travel to CST by train.
