Ghatkopar

Like Malad-Borivali belt on the West, Ghatkopar is the Gujarati stronghold on the Central suburbs.

Step out of Ghatkopar station and you can almost smell the dhokalas and undhio. It's a vibrant suburb, that is a dream place for foodies and shopoholics.

This central suburb with a history that goes back to over a century is one of the oldest settlements in Greater Mumbai. Over the years, the suburb has developed well as a mini-city with good connectivity, educational institutions, modern hospitals and entertainment facilities.

Here, the wide roads of the Central suburbs co-exist with the spirit of enterprise and endless private business ventures. The finest of international labels are sold alongside the indigenous locally handcrafted products.

Navratri at Garodia Nagar is an event to watch out for. The residents here love to live it up, and do so in style. They have Shopper's Stop and Gautier as their local shopping malls, huge Jain Derasars and Vaishnav temples that reiterate the local religious beliefs. The LBS Marg is the SV Road of this part of the city, complete with its share of commercial and huge modern residential complexes that blend the traditional with the new, in a truly cosmopolitan spirit.

Transport: Central railway is best. has a number of buses passing through that connect this suburb to Andheri. Many road commuters use it to cross over to the Western suburbs, but the roads are bad and sometimes do take much time.
