Chembur

Home to Sindhi refugees during the partition, the seat of atomic research for over 4 decades (BARC), home to refineries of oil companies like BPCL and HCPL, this seemingly small suburb has many worlds within it.

Interestingly while  it is fairly cosmopolitan, there are sections of the suburb that are distinctly Sindhi, Punjabi, Catholic, Maharashtrian and South Indian. And while each community has its own set of cultural signatures on the suburb, there is a sense of bon home and togetherness that one can feel as one walks down the roads. Geographically it is a small suburb, as the BARC, BPCL, HPCL and other such government colonies are not open to public; and they do account for large spaces in the suburb. In return a number of these corporate have also done their share for the citizens by maintaining gardens and planting trees.

It has numerous schools, colleges and even engineering colleges all of which are easily accessed by buses. The suburb has witnessed rapid development in the last couple of years, as small independent bungalows give way to tall, elegant structures. The homebuyer has a choice of projects near the station and also on the far side of the highway.

Transport: Harbour line railway station, roadways. Kurla and Vidhyavihar stations of the Central line are just 10 minutes by road and have buses plying to them.
